Dvorska 20, Vršac
Through the efforts of the Bishop of Vršac, Jovan Georgijević (1749-1769), in 1750, construction of the Bishop’s Palace in Vršac began. The foundation stone was laid down on May 8, 1757, and the building was finished in 1763. The project was done in the Baroque style, and with extensive renovations at the beginning of the 20th century, the Palace was “covered” in the eclectic style.
Inside the palace there is also a court chapel dedicated to St. Archangel Michael. The chapel has a unique iconostasis, made of hard material, painted with the genealogy of Jesus Christ – the work of Vršac’s artist Nikola Nešković. In the chapel there is a miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin called Vinčanska – Bezdinska. The tough period in the building’s history was in the middle of the 20th century, from 1941 to 1956, when it was not the residence of the Bishop of Banat.
