Stevana Sremca Street 4, Senta
In order to perserve and develop the Serbian cultural heritage in the town of Senta, as well as to perserve the memory on one of the biggest and most influentual writers in Serbia’s history, in the year of 2005. Stevan Sremac Homeland Foundation was founded. It’s aim is also to integrate all the modern parts of Serbian culture into Senta and to perserve and nurture the Serbian language and tradition in this part of Serbia. It is located in the renovated birth house of one of the greatest writers in Serbian history, Stevan Sremac.
In 2017. Stevan Sremac Homeland Foundation grows to become what is now Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac”.
In the premises of the Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac” there is an permanent exhibition about the life that Sremac led and about his work as a writer and all that he created during his turbulent life.
As this is an institution which is of a big importance for the local and wider Serbian culture, Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac” organizes book promotions, historical lectures and a manifestation called “Stevan Sremac Days” which is held every November.
Folklore dance assembly is also a part of Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac”. Today it has over 60 members devided into children, youth and senior sections. There is also a choir which has over 10 members which perserves the tradition of Chuch Choir Assembly from the 19th century. Both sections represent Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac” on the highest level both in Serbia and abroad. The crowning moment each year is The Children’s Folk Festival which includes over 1000 participants.
Theatre assembly was introduced as a part of Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac” from 2020. It includes over 50 members also devided into children, youth and senior sections. The biggest moment of the year is The Jovan Djordjevic Theatre Festival which represents the memory on Stevan Sremac’s uncle and the founder of The Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad.
Serbian Cultural Centre “Stevan Sremac” so far published books which are related to the work and life of Stevan Sremac as well as local Serbian history. That way the previously mentioned exibition is complemented by written word.
