Slovak People’s House

Ćirila i Metodija 11, Stara Pazova

Slovak People’s House is a monumental building with an elongated rectangular foundation placed on the alignment line of Ćirila i Metodija Street No. 11. It is a part of the old town core of Stara Pazova, in the immediate vicinity of Slovak Evangelical church a.c. The idea of constructing a People’s House which would be the location for gathering of Yugoslav Slovaks and Czechs originated in 1923. Working in the field of culture intensified after 1928, when Slovaks in Stara Pazova united in the Evangelical Church Assembly built the Church – People’s house, later called Slovak People’s House with a beautiful hall used by the church, but also for theatre performances. The Slovak National Reading Room was located in it, moreover, a church assembly had its premises in it where they could have religious education lessons, rehearse church songs, church presbyters would meet and perform other activities.
