The area of ​​outstanding features “Karas – Nera”

The Assembly of AP Vojvodina passed the Provincial Assembly Decision on the protection of the “Karas-Nera” Area of ​​Exceptional Characteristics at its parliamentary session on April 8, 2015.

It is about an area of ​​1,541 hectares, of which 984 are in the second-degree protection regime, and 557 hectares are in the third-degree protection regime. PIO “Karas – Nera” is located in southeastern Banat, in the municipality of BelaCrkva, and is adjacent to the border with Romania. The protected area consists of three spatial entities: “Karas”, “Nera” and “Mali Pesak”.

The main values ​​of the PIO “Karas – Nera” are the preserved abandoned meanders of Karas and river habitats of the Nera, sandbars and steppes, which are a priority for protection in Central Europe, as well as the most striking area of ​​dune relief in Serbia, and the Nera River represents an ecological corridor of international importance, which flows along the border of Serbia and Romania, connecting the Carpathians and the Pannonian Plain.
