The museum of The Danube Germans is a dependant of the Sombor City Museum, founded by the Decision of the City Council of Sombor on July 9th 1995.
The museum is located in the Grašalković Palace, the building of the Habsburg Monarchy’s Comoros administration, from which the colonization of Bačka was carried out in the 18th century.
In 1997, the Grasalkovic Palace was declared a cultural good of great importance in 2015. The permanent exhibition of the museum demonstrates the role and importance of the Germans in the creation of a specific Vojvodina culture, the common life of numerous nations, the economic development of Vojvodina and the scheduling of historical circumstances that led to the collective suffering of the German people in the territory of Yugoslavia after World War II.
