Art Gallery „Sava Šumanović“inŠid was founded on the basis of gift contract by MrsPersidaŠumanović, the painter`s mother. According to the contract, the legacy of 417 artworks was placed in the Šumanovićs` family house which was used for the District Court till then. During the eighties, the building was reconstructed and extended so the gallery has 700m2 of exhibit hall today. This made it possible to display larger number of paintings within the permanent exhibition and thematic exhibitions as well.
Gallery.The main activity of the Gallery is to research, conserve, interpret and exhibit Šumanović`s works of art and offers visitors the experiences of art education and enjoyment. Furthermore, the collection includes the archive materials: professional archive and photo documentation, valuable hemerotheque related to Sava Šumanović, exhibitions, Gallery, art critiques and the library fund which contains about a thousand items: monographic publications, exhibition catalogs and periodicals. As a part of the Gallery there is another building: The Memorial House of Sava Šumanović with old family furniture and the painter`s atelier. This is the house where Šumanović lived during his childhood from the age of four to the age of ten and after his return from Paris from 1930-1942.After MrsPersidaŠumanović passed away, the Gallery came into possession of a number of Šumanović`s letters and documents. Ten years after the founding of the Gallery,The Memorial of Sava Šumanović was established to promote the artwork of Sava Šumanović through the exhibitions, educational programs and panel studies in wide range of topics. The Memorial has been holding every third year since then.Collection.The entire opus of Sava Šumanović has about 1400 artworks. Art Gallery „Sava Šumanović“keeps the largest collection of this artist. Its legacy of 417 paintings includes 350 oils and 67 sketches in different techniques like drawing, pastel, watercolor, diluted tempera. This collection is representative in crucial moments of the painer`s work during the last decade (Šid`s period). Smaller part of the collection, only by number of paintings not by significance, consists of paintings that Šumanović himself brought from Paris.The permanent exhibition contains about 90-130 paintings so the visitors can learn more about the last decade of the painters work andlife.
