The oldest house in Petrovac:
A cultural monument of exceptional importance from the second half of the 18th century The oldest house in Petrovac is a Pannonian-type house, the kind that were built from the 18th to the middle of the 20th century. The house was built using the technique of tamping clay and the entire surface is partially buried in the ground. The roof is gabled, made of reeds and facing the street with its gable. The house contains objects that represent the traditional housing of Slovaks from Vojvodina.
Hemp kneading mechanism (Mniač):
Mniač is under the protection of the state as an important immovable cultural asset and represents an invention of folk technique, the only one of its kind preserved in the territory of Vojvodina. It was built in 1862/63. Using this mechanism, the hemp is softened by “rubbing”, which is then carded, classified and finally spun.
The facility consists of a hemp kneading mechanism, which is covered with a roof structure. The roof structure rests on ten circularly arranged pillars. The mechanism is made of a circular path on which hemp is laid, along which a stone wheel moves that softens it. The stone wheel is 130 cm in diameter, 50 cm wide and weighs about 2 tons. The wheel was driven by horses, through a system of beams connected in triangles. Elements for starting with an electric motor were subsequently added to the mechanism, so that since 1939 the hemp kneadingmechanism was driven by electricity. Mnac was in operation until the beginning of the 60s of the 20th century.
Granary on a sleigh:
The barn (granary) was used to store grain. It was placed on a sled, which made it easier to move in the mud and snow, in the event of a fire hazard. In the later stage of development, barns were built from non-combustible materials in the back part of the yard, next to existing houses or as independent, auxiliary buildings.
