Municipal Museum of Bačka Topola

Maršala Tita 60, Bačka Topola

The Municipal Museum of Bačka Topola is located in the former Baroque castle, which Baron Pál Kray had built between 1800 and 1802. On the ground floor of the building, there is a permanent exhibition “The Giants”, which represents former, famous figures of the municipality of Bačka Topola: doctor János Hadzsy, naive painter Péter Kukac Nagyapáti, fine artists Péter Bicskei and József Ács, writer Erzsébet Juhász, theatre director Mara Dimitrijević Lusztig, ethnologist and poet Ferenc Tóth, marathon runner Pál Skenderović, as well as archaeological material from Bačka Topola, the discovery of which is linked to the name of archaeologist László Szekeres. The office and collection of the NGO Art Colony Bačka Topola are also on the ground floor.

The halls on the first floor of the baroque castle are used for temporary exhibitions, musical evenings, educational lectures, children’s programs and museum workshops. In one of the rooms on the first floor, there is the library of the architect Dr Imre Harkai (1952–2004), where visitors and researchers can read books on architecture, ethnology and monument protection in Hungarian, Serbian and English languages.

The museum is in charge of collecting, processing, preserving, storing, digitizing and presenting all objects, manuscripts, photographs and documents related to the municipality of Bačka Topola. The institution also collects and preserves the legacies of former famous people who were born in the municipality or worked in this area. Researchers also have access to all of this material.
