Remains of the Turkish bath (Hamam)

Trg Dr Zorana Đinđića 4, Bač

In the 14th century, increasingly frequent incursions by the Turks were recorded. Many campaigns against the Turks started from Bac. At the time of the Battle of Mohács, Bač also provided its cavalry, but the Turkish invasion of Bač was not stopped at the beginning of the 15th century after the Battle of Mohács and the fall of Belgrade, it was conquered in 1529. After the Battle of Mohács, the Turks ravaged Bač and this town in Bačka became the seat of the Szeged sanjak and the seat of the Bačkanahija, which had 70 villages. The hammam in the center of Bač is a valuable and rare testimony to the time of Ottoman domination in Vojvodina. It was most likely built after 1578, and it was recorded by EvilijaCelebi during his visit to Bac in 1665. Based on archaeological finds, it is known that there were six rooms in the hammam (Shadrvan-waiting room and wardrobe, halvat-bathing room, hazna-water tank and Đulhan-burning room). The hammamwas partially destroyed, but a part of the cube above the central room was preserved. The walls of several rooms with vessels from that era have also been preserved, as well as the still visible remains of ceramic pipes that were used to distribute hot and cold water.
